ST. MATTHEW'S DAY

Join us after service for a celebration of St. Matthew!

Facts you may not know about Saint Matthew:

·         He was a tax collector despised by the Jewish community.  Jesus chose him to be one of his closest followers with the words, “follow me”.

·         Matthew’s original name was Levi.  It is thought that maybe his name changed at his transformation as a follower of Christ.

·         He is symbolized by an Angel.  The winged man or angel, came to represent St. Matthew, because his book opens with the descendants of Jesus.

·         He was a prolific missionary.  After Jesus ascended to Heaven he preached the Gospel in Palestine, Ethiopia and Persia.

·         St. Matthew is the patron saint of accountants!
